Malayer Rug, 133 X 220 Cm, Hand-knotted Wool From Iran, Circa 1970, In Excellent Condition

Malayer rug, circa 1960–1970, hand-knotted in Iran from very high-quality wool.
It measures 133 cm wide by 222 cm long.

In very good condition; fringes, pile, and selvedges show only slight signs of wear.
Our rug features an elaborate medallion in red and ivory, adorned with numerous stylized flowers.
The colors are soft: red, buff, ivory, mouse gray, and light gray.
The beautifully designed border consists of flowers and water or eternity lines.

.These rugs are knotted with strong, thick, lustrous yarn, often dyed with natural dyes and hand-spun.
This yarn results in a durable surface and a beautiful color palette.
- They are now all woven with cotton warp threads and a weft thread between each row of knots.
The patterns are often geometric, but highly elaborate floral designs are also found.

## More recent rugs, dating from after 1980, are often made with synthetic dyes and lower-quality wool than older rugs.
Generally speaking, Malayer rugs are very good rugs for everyday use.

The Hamadan rug family includes types such as the Bortchalou, Enjilas,   Hosseinabad, Lilihan, Khamse, Zanjan, and the Malayer—the model we are featuring.
These rugs are also sometimes sold under the general name Hamadan, a term that encompasses rugs from many villages.
