Hand-knotted Malayer rug from Iran (Persia), circa 1960, measuring 142 cm wide by 214 cm long.
The pile, selvedges, and fringes are in perfect condition; this is a very sturdy rug.
The colors—red, pale blue, royal blue, orange, eggplant, and ivory—are strikingly beautiful and quite rare in the color schemes of these rugs.

The beautifully designed border features stylized flowers, apple blossoms, and carnations, followed by a maze of lines.
These rugs are knotted with strong, thick, lustrous yarn dyed with natural dyes and, of course, hand-spun.
This yarn results in a durable surface and a beautiful color palette.
Hamadan rugs are characterized by being woven with cotton warp threads and a weft thread between each row of knots.

The patterns are often geometric, but highly elaborate floral designs are also found.
## More recent rugs, dating from after 1980, are often made with synthetic dyes and lower-quality wool than older rugs.
Generally speaking, Malayer rugs are very good rugs for everyday use.
