Kirsehir-medjidi Rug, 102 X 158 Cm, Ottoman Art, Hand-knotted Wool On Wool, Mid-19th Century

Rare and typical model characteristic of the achievements of the time of Sultan Abd-ül-Medjid 1st. (1823 -1861)
This splendid Kirsehir-Medjidi presents us with a sumptuous decoration on a cherry red background.
Wool on wool, double wool weft, Turkish knot.
Dimensions: 102 cm x 157 cm
Condition of use: wear, certainly, but beautiful collection condition.
Rare artifact from the Ottoman Empire.
The two main colors, cherry red, color of the national flag and green, color of the religious flag of the Prophet.
Note the two mosque lamps suspended in the center of the carpet by chains made of S.
The S are the symbol of God in Christian art, and mainly in the manufacture of carpets among the Armenians.
This piece is therefore in no way a Muslim double niche prayer rug.
It is a Christian prayer rug knotted by an Armenian, which is not rare in Transylvania (west-central Romania), as well as in the Caucasus. I bought this carpet in Hungary, so we can admit the hypothesis of a work Armenians (the best knotters).
Production for the Hungarian market therefore for a Christian customer.
These carpets then take the name of Transylvanian carpets. Certainly, the years have passed and the colors have faded, but the vigor remains very present, on this piece with a rather rare pedigree.
The heavily worked border of knots, stylized flowers, and a classical field, denotes the French influence that this sultan wanted to instill in his country.
This sultan left his mark on the art of his country and gave a real direction towards French art in the middle of the 19th century. We have a reflection of this period in the design of this piece, a rare carpet of its kind.
Dimensions: width: 102 cm (40") x length: 157 cm (58")
## During the reign of Abdulmejid, in addition to the European-style architecture and European-style clothing adopted by the court, the Ottoman educational system was also mainly based on the model European.
## Dolmabahçe Palace, the first European-style palace in Istanbul, was built by Abdulmejid between 1843 and 1856 at a cost of five million Ottoman gold pounds, the equivalent of 35 tons of gold. Fourteen tons of gold were used to adorn the interior ceiling of the palace.
The world's largest Bohemian crystal chandelier is in the central hall.
The palace has the world's largest collection of Bohemian and Baccarat crystal chandeliers, the staircases are made of Baccarat crystal.
