Object description :

"Afghan Rug, Large Size, 250 X 345 Cm, Hand-knotted Wool In Afghanistan Circa 1980, Good Condition"
Afghan rug with Turkmen decoration in wool, it measures 250 cm wide by 345 cm long.
Important model in good condition from the 1980s.
Red and black wool, for the whole, this rug is decorated with 40 large guls (medallions).
These medallions are found on Central Asian rugs, here alternating with small crosses.
# Beautiful deep wool of great classic quality on these rugs.
# Note the beauty of the complex design of the borders.
Afghan handicrafts are always of very good quality. In other regions, nomadic rugs are often loosely knotted and have long pile, unlike Afghan or Turkmen rugs which have dense and tight knots due to the Persian knot, velvet lines and goat hair or sheep wool, supple and shiny.
The use of goat hair is more common for the warp and weft.
These rugs have a masculine aura and have always been appreciated since the 19th century century for the decoration of businessmen's offices.
These majestic carpets are certainly the best in Central Asia and are the work of the Afghan tribes.
The same spirit of knotting and pattern is found in the neighboring carpets of Turkmenistan belonging to the Tekke tribe, generally called Bukhara-Tekke, but the old production consists of smaller carpets, due to the distance separating them from Central Asia and foreign markets.
This carpet is in good condition. velvet, fringes and selvedges.
Finished in kilim-style knotting followed by fringes.
