Hereke carpet in natural silk and gold thread — Circa 1980
95 × 60 cm — 12,000 knots per dm²
An exquisite Hereke rug, made around 1980, in natural silk on a gold-thread background. Its knot density of 12,000 knots per dm² results in a remarkably fine design.
The composition centers on a multi-lobed central medallion in shades of powder pink and ivory, featuring a delicate turquoise rosette. Surrounding it is a lavish design of blooming flowers, palmettes, and serrated foliage, connected by delicate scrollwork.
The gold-thread background illuminates this composition and highlights a subtle palette of antique pink, coral red, turquoise blue, and soft green. Deep brown outlines emphasize the details of the design.
A wide pink border, adorned with flowers and foliage and accented by delicate turquoise frames, completes the design. Light-colored fringes adorn both ends.
The sheen of the silk and the shimmer of the gold threads vary with the light, revealing the full richness of the weave. An elegant piece, whose size is also suitable for wall display.
