Important: Bidjar Silk Rug
Exceptional silk Bidjar rug – Persia (Iran)
Shah era – Circa 1950
An exceptional Bidjar carpet woven entirely of silk, made in Persia (Iran) around 1950 during the Shah era, and representing one of the most refined expressions of the art of Oriental carpet weaving.
Made entirely of silk—for both the pile and the warp and weft—this rug is distinguished by its exceptional craftsmanship. Its density of approximately 10,000 knots per square decimeter gives it remarkably fine detail, great precision in execution, and sumptuous sheen that shifts with the light.
One of its most exceptional features is its warp and weft, which are made entirely of multicolored silk. This weaving technique is extremely rare and was reserved only for works of the very highest caliber. The presence of this multicolored silk weft, which extends naturally into the original fringes, is a true mark of prestige and refinement. Exemplars retaining this distinctive feature are highly sought after today and rarely appear on the market.
Its dimensions of 285 × 291 cm, close to a square shape, are also particularly rare for a Bidjar made entirely of silk. Combining such a size, such high-quality weaving, and such exquisite craftsmanship is truly exceptional.
