Large, Flat Provincial Desk In The Louis XV Style, Made Of Fruitwood – Mid-19th Century
Large, flat provincial writing desk in the Louis XV style, dating from the mid-19th century, the Louis-Philippe era / Second Empire.
Beautifully proportioned, this solid wood desk—likely made of cherry wood—rests on four curved legs joined by scalloped crossbars.
The rectangular top, nearly two meters long, is constructed from several solid wood planks joined within a wide mitered frame.
The desk features two distinct sides: one has two large side drawers flanking a central open section, while the other is adorned with three trompe-l’œil drawer fronts, fitted with drop-down brass handles.
This allowed the desk to be placed in the center of a room.
The two functional drawers, which are particularly deep, feature traditional construction with dovetail joints and solid wood bottoms.
The piece has retained a beautiful antique patina, marked by numerous signs of use.
Condition: in need of restoration. The tabletop has cracks, areas where it has come apart, several old repairs, as well as damage and missing sections, particularly at the corners. The piece requires restoration and reinforcement of the damaged parts.
A family heirloom desk, preserved and used over several generations.
