After Adrianus Eversen (1818–1897) – City Dwellers In The Snow – Oil On Canvas, Early 20th Century

Oil on canvas depicting a lively snow-covered street in a Dutch town, after a composition by the painter Adrianus Eversen (1818–1897).

The scene features the characteristic architecture of historic Dutch towns, with brick façades, stepped gables, a church tower and numerous figures going about their daily activities.

The painting closely follows the composition of Townspeople in the Snow by Adrianus Eversen, a signed oil on panel measuring 44 × 35.5 cm, offered at Christie's Amsterdam on 14 October 2008, lot 240/A.

Executed in oil on canvas on a considerably larger scale than the original, this painted version displays loose brushwork and a rich texture, particularly evident in the treatment of the sky, snow and figures.

A partially legible inscription on the reverse appears to read “Sept. 1929”.

Unsigned, presented in an old moulded wooden frame with gilt inner trim.
