Large Louis XV Minister's Desk Signed Boudin, In Rosewood And Palisander Marquetry, 18th Century
Artist: Boudin
A prestigious piece bearing the double stamp of a Parisian cabinetmaker and merchant from the 18th century, whose production and style persisted until the early 18th century. This beautiful, large, flat "Minister" desk has everything to charm: the quality of its marquetry, its well-proportioned and elegant lines, the fine joinery of the light oak panels, and its size. An ornamental and functional piece of furniture with its flat central drawer and two deeper side drawers, known as "box drawers." Of rare elegance, with its finely chased mercury-gilt bronze mounts, drops, openwork embrasures, and keyhole escutcheons, this sumptuous piece of furniture has everything to charm. The original top, adorned with ironwork on red morocco leather, shows considerable wear and a beautiful patina. The French polish with its remarkable glaze highlights the beauty of the veneer grain. A choice piece from the late 18th century, proudly bearing its mark... that of a great supplier to the Court, a man of many talents. A rare piece, and one that is justified in its price.
