"Beautiful Renaissance Period Buffet In Walnut, Two Narrowed Bodies, Carved Broken Pediment, Marquetry"
Rare and beautiful sideboard from Franche-Comté, two narrowed bodies with a slender broken pediment decorated with a niche with a virgin, this rich piece of furniture from the Château is of a grace, an elegance specific to French quality with a certain Italian influence; the geography bringing us closer to the peninsula... The four doors richly sculpted with the symbol of Justice, Architecture for the upper panels, & always starting from left to right with the Pharmacopoeia and Alchemy; represented by elegant Women dressed and coiffed in the antique style. The panels are framed and the uprights in marquetry of lemon tree and ebony with fillets and ornaments, like the upper crosspiece and the sides of the niche. The masterful pediment called "broken" is decorated with a beautiful console niche in its center and the three pretty applied consoles underline the pediment, like those at the bottom framing the two beautiful lion head drawers with an ingenious steel pull in the mouth. The interior of the upper part is fitted with verriot shelves on the sides, and in the lower part of the narrowed body two smaller drawers just as worked. Beautiful cornices adorn this beautiful piece of furniture; and the assemblies of the top in the corners in an ingenious meander.
