Black Chalk Drawing, Dated 1822, “the Persian Horse.”
Artist: H. Jolis Ainé
Large drawing, titled "Persian Horse," "Equus Persicus." A large, richly harnessed horse with a plume on its head, led by a young stable boy dressed in Eastern style, wearing a turban adorned with large feathers. A section of a pyramid on the right, a large fortified building on the left. The details are rendered with great finesse. This is indeed a black chalk drawing and not a graphite drawing.
Superb composition. Minor restoration on the upper border of the drawing.
Signed H. Jolis the Elder. 1822.
