Wooden Statue Of The Conversion Of St Paul. Folk Art 18th Century.
Large statue of St Paul's conversion on the road to Damascus. His companions fell to the ground, struck by the divine light that suddenly appeared. In the present version, St Paul remained on his rearing horse. St Paul (then called Saul), who was hunting down Christians, is dressed in a Roman uniform, since he was a soldier in the Roman army. See his shield on the left. His face expresses fear. Remains of polychromy. A large crack at the base of the mound on which it stands. Missing (left front leg of the horse, which is well represented).
Very dynamic group, probably French folk art. 18th century.
