Academic Study From The Late 18th Century, Red Chalk, Male Profile (?), Hair Pulled Back.
A beautiful academic study in red chalk of a young man’s face (judging by the rather tense expression), or perhaps a young woman’s. Profile turned to the left, lips slightly parted, very beautiful gaze. Short, curly hair at the front, gathered at the nape of the neck by a sort of scarf held in place by a headband.
Very beautiful, tense expression; powerful neck. Stains at the four corners; brown paper remnants glued to the back of the sheet from a previous mounting. A tear on the left side that does not extend to the drawing.
A beautiful red chalk sketch of a male face on the reverse.
France, circa 1780–90
