Teak Temple Gable Assembly From Burma – Mandalay, Circa 1900
A complete set of Burmese teak altar pediment and frame, made in the Mandalay style around 1890–1910. This five-piece architectural ensemble consists of the central pediment, two side panels, and two supporting elements, originally designed to surround a Buddhist altar in a temple or monastery in Burma (Myanmar).
The decoration combines deep openwork carving of Kanyut motifs, remnants of gold leaf, an antique black thit-see lacquer, and numerous mirror and Hman-zi mosaic inlays. The V-shaped miter joints and the various preserved parts illustrate the traditional construction methods of Mandalay’s religious architecture.
Condition: very good condition for its age, with signs of wear, localized loss of gilding, patina, and old marks consistent with its historical use. The set is sold complete, in five parts.
Dimensions: central pediment 114.5 × 114 cm; side panels 102 × 30 cm (2); supporting elements 75 × 15 cm and 64.5 × 15 cm; assembled height approximately 200 cm. Weight: approximately 25 kg.
Provenance: Burma (Myanmar).
