A pair of beautiful bamboo sculptures (vases). They can also be used as vases. The reliefs show a couple of dignified figures, dressed in festive costumes and richly decorated. Both the man and the woman carry on their backs wicker baskets containing picked flowers. They are surrounded by a skilfully depicted landscape with rocks, trees and flowers. The set is decorated with small mother-of-pearl applications. Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912) Height 58.5 cm, width 20 cm, depth 18 cm.
