Silver-plated Bronze Bhaisajyaguru Medicine Buddha – Nepal, 15th–16th Century
Silver-plated bronze Bhaisajyaguru Medicine Buddha, from the Kathmandu Valley in the Newar tradition and intended for the Tibetan Buddhist world, dated to around 1450–1600. The figure sits on a lotus-shaped pedestal and holds the healing attribute characteristic of Bhaisajyaguru iconography. The bronze was cast in two parts and features an original silver-plated finish with gilded accents. The surface retains a patina and signs of wear consistent with its age; condition typical of an antique object, with visible localized wear and losses. Height: 46 cm. Weight: 14 kg.
