Gilded Bronze Buddha From The Himalayas – 18th–19th Century

Seated bronze Buddha from the Himalayan region, dating from the 18th–19th centuries. This devotional image retains traces of its fire-gilding, particularly in the folds of the robe and the recesses of the sculpture.

The Buddha is depicted on a lotus pedestal, with his legs crossed. His right hand extends downward toward the ground in the bhumisparsha mudra, a gesture associated with Enlightenment, while his left hand rests in his lap. The serene face and balanced composition characterize this Buddhist sculpture.

The work was cast in the hollow technique using the lost-wax method. The interior features irregular walls and an opening beneath the base. The patina and signs of age remain visible.

Condition: structurally sound; surface wear and wear on the gilding, with a small, old dent on the chin. The object’s record shows no evidence of restoration or modern surface treatment.
