Antique Thai Bronze Sakyamuni Buddha, Bhumisparsha Mudra
An antique Thai bronze Sakyamuni Buddha, C19th or earlier, cast in solid bronze with traces of original dark lacquer and an attractive naturally aged patina.
The Buddha is seated in vajrasana on a lotus base, the right hand in the Bhumisparsha mudra (earth-touching gesture) and the left in dhyana. The tall flame-shaped ushnisha, stylised hair curls, and elegant proportions are characteristic of Thai Buddhist sculpture made in the Ayutthaya tradition and continued into the early Rattanakosin period.
The underside retains its original clay core, typical of authentic Thai lost-wax casting.
Height: 12.8 cm
Good condition, with age-related wear and patination consistent with an antique Thai bronze.
