Antique Japanese Hirado Porcelain Reticulated Koro, Meiji Period 1868–1912

An antique Japanese Hirado porcelain incense burner or koro, dating from the Meiji period, 1868–1912.

The globular body is raised upon three short feet and fitted with two applied shishi-mask handles. It is extensively and very finely reticulated with a geometric honeycomb lattice, demonstrating the technical skill for which Hirado porcelain is particularly admired.

The solid sections are delicately painted in underglaze blue with stylised flowers and cloud motifs. The removable domed cover is also intricately pierced and finished with an underglaze-blue line around the rim.

A charming and accomplished example of Japanese Hirado porcelain from the Meiji period.

Height: 10.5 cm.

Condition: Good condition.
