"the Good Samaritan At The Well," Oil On Panel, First Half Of The 17th Century, In A Contemporary Red-lacquered Frame.

Oil on panel depicting a scene from the Gospel according to John, in which Jesus meets the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well. This work, which is of some artistic interest, can likely be attributed—based on its composition and the characterization of the figures—to the Roman Cortonian school of the mid-17th century; thus, it is possible to suggest a certain affinity with Pietro da Cortona’s principal pupil, Ciro Ferri. The painting is of high quality, with the figures in the foreground—set against Jacob’s well, which is placed at the center of the composition—rendered in balanced proportions, while a large, ruined classical column looms slightly behind them. The landscape, which opens up toward the horizon, leads to a distant city with a fairy-tale quality. The frame in which the panel is mounted is finished in red lacquer; it is original and contemporary to the painting. The dimensions of the panel are: 22 cm x 32 cm. The dimensions including the frame are: 37 cm x 45 cm.
