Chinese Export Plate Decorated With Dutch Overglaze Enamel, Circa 1750.
Chinese export porcelain plate (Chine de Commande), decorated with a Dutch design in overglaze enamel, known as Amsterdams Bont, Qianlong period, mid-18th century.
This is a classic example of Chinese export porcelain (Chine de Commande), commissioned for the European market by the Dutch East India Company (VOC). The piece was fired in Jingdezhen during the reign of Emperor Qianlong, in the mid-18th century.
The secondary decoration, known as “clobbered decoration,” was executed in the Netherlands by local artisans, who added vibrant overglaze enamels.
The plate depicts Anne, Princess Royal and Princess of Orange, flanked by two musical cherubs (putti) playing trumpets. The landscape composition is embellished with inscriptions in Dutch.
