Bronze Sculpture “the Archer” — A Student Of Willem Van Tetrode
This bronze sculpture, titled “The Archer,” was created by a student of the Dutch sculptor Willem van Tetrode.
The sculpture depicts a slender, muscular athlete standing with his legs spread wide apart. His left arm is extended forward, while his right arm is drawn back, as if he were drawing the bowstring. The dynamic pose conveys the tension and intense concentration of the figure in the moment before releasing the arrow.
The work is executed using the “écorché” technique, an artistic approach in which the human figure is depicted with visible musculature, stripped of skin. This treatment of the human body is characteristic of the masters of the Renaissance and Mannerism, reflecting their deep interest in anatomical study and sculptural form.
Cast in bronze and adorned with a beautiful dark lacquered patina, the sculpture highlights the expressive modeling as well as the particularly refined rendering of the figure’s anatomy. The work is in excellent condition.
