Pair Of Portraits By Leopold Fertbauer (1802–1875)
Portrait of a Lady in a Red Shawl
Portrait of a Gentleman (circa 1830)
These two works were conceived as a pair of portraits. The gentleman and the lady are depicted in elegant attire characteristic of Viennese Biedermeier fashion. Each portrait is painted in oil on wood panel and measures 25 × 19.3 cm.
Together, they form a classic pair of family portraits, characteristic of Austrian portrait painting from the first third of the 19th century.
Leopold Fertbauer was a renowned Austrian painter, considered a master of intimate portraiture and one of the leading figures of the Viennese School.
