The Healing Of The Woman Suffering From A Bleeding Disorder

This icon depicts the healing of the woman who had been suffering from a continuous flow of blood for twelve years. She had spent all her money on doctors, but none of them had been able to heal her. Knowing that, according to Jewish law, she was considered ritually impure and forbidden to touch others, she nevertheless approached Christ and touched the hem of His garment. The moment she touched Him, the bleeding stopped. The Savior then said to her, “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.”

The icon was painted in Mstiora (Vladimir region, Russia).

The icon is in good overall condition. Minor restorations are present only on the border areas, affecting only the brown background in the upper right and lower right corners.

On the reverse side is a partially legible inscription:

“A. P. Semionov” (the donor’s last name)
“1920, with love to Fyodor.”
