Painting By Paul Ackerman
Paul Ackerman (1908–1981) – Composition with Mechanical Figures
A major work by Paul Ackerman, a painter of the École de Paris, executed in oil on canvas mounted on panel.
This unique work depicts an imaginary world populated by figures. The forms appear to float in a dark space, near a strange structure or machine.
The thick, textured paint accentuates the mysterious and almost sculptural quality of the composition. The color palette is dominated by black, gray, and blue, enhanced by a few touches of white, green, and yellow.
Paul Ackerman, born in 1908 in Iași, Romania, and died in 1981 in Paris, was a painter, lithographer, sculptor, and theater set designer. Having settled in France at a very young age, he was part of the École de Paris. His work is characterized by great stylistic diversity, ranging from abstraction to figuration.
