Large 19th-century Holy Water Font

Wall-mounted holy water font made of onyx, cloisonné bronze, and porcelain painting – 19th century

An elegant Neo-Gothic-style wall-mounted holy water font, crafted from a large slab of green onyx with natural veining, richly adorned with a polychrome cloisonné bronze design featuring blue, white, red, and gold enamels.

The central section features a delicate porcelain painting depicting the Virgin and Child, inspired by Italian Renaissance Madonnas, framed by finely chiseled Gothic architecture and surmounted by an enameled cross.

The bowl, also made of cloisonné bronze, echoes the floral and geometric motifs of the entire piece, creating a remarkable decorative harmony. The reverse side consists of a brass plate fitted with a hanging ring.

With its high-quality craftsmanship, the delicacy of the enamels, and the combination of noble materials (onyx, bronze, and painted porcelain), this work evokes 19th-century French or Viennese productions, in the style of religious art objects presented at the World’s Fairs.

In good condition with slight signs of wear and an antique patina consistent with its age.
