Antique Painting On Copper, *ecce Homo*

The subject depicted in this painting is the Ecce Homo (or Christ in Sorrows, Crowned with Thorns). It portrays the face of Jesus Christ during the Passion, characterized by the crown of thorns, his sorrowful gaze turned toward heaven, and his hands crossed over his chest. The painting captures a moment of intense suffering during the Passion, with a strong chiaroscuro contrast typical of the period. It is one of the most traditional and widespread representations in Christian sacred art. Due to the strong contrasts of light and shadow (chiaroscuro), the dark tones, and the dramatic rendering of the face, the work belongs to the tradition of Baroque painting of the Italian school (in particular the Emilian school or the circle of Guido Reni) or the Flemish school, dating approximately to the 17th–18th centuries.
