János Szűcs (1917–1995) – Rural Landscape, oil on canvas

Oil on canvas attributed to János Szűcs, a Hungarian painter and printmaker trained at the Budapest Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under István Szőnyi, among others.

This landscape depicts houses with red roofs, surrounded by trees, set against a field dotted with sheaves of grain. A vast, dynamic sky, in shades of blue, white, and pink, dominates the composition. The loose brushwork and impasto add texture and depth to this rural scene.

On the reverse, an old label from the Képcsarnok Vállalat in Budapest bears the artist’s name and the title “Kukoricakazlak,” evoking corn sheaves.

The painting is set in a molded frame with a silver finish, showing signs of wear and some missing sections in places, particularly along the edges and at the corners, as visible in the photographs.

Dimensions with frame: 59 × 76 cm.
