Diane De Gabies – 19th-century Bronze
An elegant bronze statuette with a medallion-style patina depicting Diana of Gabii, also known as Artemis of Gabii, the ancient goddess of the hunt.
The young goddess is depicted standing, dressed in a finely pleated tunic. In a graceful pose, she raises her arms to fasten her garment over her right shoulder. This composition is based on the famous ancient statue traditionally attributed to the Greek sculptor Praxiteles and now housed in the Louvre Museum.
A 19th-century bronze cast featuring an engraved plaque on the base reading “Réduction Sauvage.” The sculpture rests on an elegant rectangular pedestal of veined red marble.
Beautifully chiseled, particularly in the rendering of the face, hairstyle, sandals, and the numerous folds of the drapery.
Antique patina showing some wear and signs of age. Minor imperfections on the fingers of the raised hand and some signs of use on the marble base.
