Élisabeth Dujarric de La Rivière (1929–2005) – Large Portrait

Élisabeth Dujarric de La Rivière (1929–2005) was a French painter. Born in Jouy-en-Josas, she trained in Paris, notably at the Académie Julian and the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. In the 1950s, she moved to La Ruche, the famous Parisian artists’ community, where she rubbed shoulders with Paul Rebeyrolle and the circle of the Jeune Peinture française.

In 1957, she received the Prix du Salon de la Jeune Peinture. Her work, primarily figurative, is characterized by a free and expressive style, a tangible texture, and a particular focus on the human figure and scenes of everyday life. She also created engravings and illustrations. Deeply attached to La Ruche, she played an active role in its preservation by founding an association dedicated to safeguarding this historic site.

This large portrait is characteristic of postwar figurative painting, featuring a deliberately free composition of the figure, an energetic brushstroke, and broad swaths of color.

The reverse side bears several inscriptions, notably “Dujarric de la Rivière – 2 Passage de Dantzig – Paris.”

Overall condition is fair. There is a small hole in the canvas, visible in the photographs. Minor restoration is recommended.
