Ligbi Or Djimini Mask, Ivory Coast

Rare Ligbi or Djimini mask (Senoufo/Koulango) from northern Ivory Coast.
Do mask used by Muslim ethnic groups during the mourning rituals for local dignitaries or during major Ramadan celebrations.
Human face with a bird (a goose?) and horns; the wings on the sides show Senufo influences. 
Height 48 cm without the base; custom-made base; traces of blue and white pigments; inlaid with beads and tin plates; beautiful patina from use; very rare antique mask (early 20th century).

The glare in the photos is due to the powerful lighting used to ensure you can see the objects as clearly as possible.
From a truly beautiful collection assembled by expatriates who lived in Africa in the 1950s and ’60s and later passed down through inheritance. It’s not always the case, but these cultured individuals took the time to carefully select their pieces on-site—they’re all superb, and I have several for sale.
