Dogon Ancestor Mask From Mali
Dogon mask made of honey-colored hardwood, depicting a revered ancestor, not very thick (a sign of quality!) with cubist and minimalist lines. Height 30 cm, not including the custom-made base. Beautiful antique patina; mask from the early 20th century.
From a truly beautiful collection assembled by expatriates who lived in Africa in the 1950s and ’60s and later passed down through inheritance. It’s not always the case, but these cultured individuals took the time to carefully select their pieces on-site—they’re all superb, and I have several for sale.
The glare in the photos is due to the powerful lighting used to ensure you can see the objects as clearly as possible.
