A very fine female Dan mask from Côte d'Ivoire, featuring a thick, crusty surface patina and a beautiful glossy patina on the interior; it has a nail driven into the head and a red fabric headdress encircling the crown. Total height: 23.5 cm; width: 14.5 cm. The Dan people inhabit primarily the mountainous western region of Côte d'Ivoire and the hinterland of Liberia.
