Pair Of Large 6-light Candelabras In Patinated And Mercury-gilded Bronze From The Empire And Restoration Periods
A beautiful pair of double-patina bronze candelabra (patinated bronze and gilded bronze). Parisian Empire-style piece from the Restoration period—early 19th century, circa 1820.
A beautiful tripod design resting on claw feet shaped like an ancient torch topped with a flame. Two-tone finish in mercury-gilded bronze with a matte and glossy finish and brown patinated bronze; the contrast highlights the gold of the gilding. Very fine quality of chasing. These large light fixtures feature six lights. The six-light crown is removable; the columns can also be used as a pair of very beautiful lamp bases.
Our candelabras stand out from mass-produced items due to the quality of their engraving, gilding, and brown patina, but they are also rare in that they are made entirely of bronze, whereas candelabras of this type typically have brass parts, such as the central column. Here, everything is made of bronze, a mark of quality. As a result, the candelabras are very stable (and quite heavy).
The set is in very good condition, with well-preserved mercury gilding. One candleholder of a very similar design has been added (almost invisible)
A beautiful and highly decorative set. Ideal as a mantelpiece decoration, on a console table, or to illuminate a festive table.
