"Jacob Desmalter - Empire Period Office Chair In Mahogany And Gilt Bronze"
An Empire period armchair in mahogany and mahogany veneer, with a scrolled, inverted back, baluster-shaped front legs, and Etruscan-style rear legs. The armrests are molded mahogany. A luxury piece, the connecting blocks and scrolls of the back are adorned with chased and gilded bronze rosettes. Made by Jacob Desmalter, circa 1810, unstamped. The Palace of Versailles displays in its Empire period collections armchairs by Jacob Desmalter that are close variations of this chair. The quality of the carved decoration and the finish leaves no doubt as to its attribution. For this beautiful collector's armchair, we commissioned a high-quality restoration by the Mobilier National: French polishing, horsehair stuffing in a "knife-edge" pattern, which we then covered with a raspberry pink silk cannetille from the Prelle company, featuring a yellow motif (Duroc pattern), enhanced with double gold and silver braid. A beautiful collector's item in perfect condition. The antique fabric is new, having never been used before. It is clean with only a very minor snag in the weave. The colors are vibrant. The gold and silver trim is a repurposed 19th-century braid. Width: 61cm Height: 92cm Seat height: 41cm
