Sèvres - Biscuit Porcelain Bust Of Brutus - Signed And Dated 1867
Artist: Manufacture Impériale De Sèvres
Bust of Marcus Junius Brutus, one of the protagonists in the assassination of Julius Caesar, specifically his son, tu quoque Filii! The face, rendered with classical restraint, features a short beard and firm features, in keeping with the neoclassical iconography of the republican hero. The figure is dressed in a draped paludamentum, whose ample and regular folds recall antique models. Biscuit porcelain, on its lapis blue porcelain base with a gold rim. Under the base, the signature of the Imperial Sèvres Manufactory in 1865 and gilding in 1867. A beautiful object of great neoclassical decoration, the subject is rare. We present it on an Italian marble base, perfectly suited to its dimensions, which completes the effect of a grand decoration or Grand Tour souvenir. For the base, see our other items. In excellent condition, no damage, gilding of the base without wear. Height: 20.6cm Base diameter: 8.5cm
