Empire Ormolu Mantel Bar, Gilt Bronze (ormolu) - France, Early 19th Century
Beautiful Empire ormolu mantel bar - mercury gilt bronze (ormolu), Empire period, early 19th century circa 1805-1810. The side parts move to enlarge or reduce the size of the bar according to the mantel width (140cm to 160cm long). The Egyptian lionesses sitting on the bases are inspired by those from the Capitol in Roma. They were used a lot, on many Empire andirons produced by Claude Galle and André-Antoine Ravrio.
Complete and functional, our bar is a large model for a large castle mantel.
Beautiful collector in excellent condition, ideal to complete an Empire period decoration. Gilt is the original, a little attenuated.
