Mid-18th century French school, hunting scene, known as "le bât l'eau", the stag's classic trick of crossing a river, pond or marsh to mask his scent and confuse the pack. The scene is animated by numerous characters, including the stag, the dogs and the hunters on horseback, set against a beautiful blue-sky landscape. Oil on canvas from the Louis XV period, mid-18th century, presented in a Regency-period rocaille frame in carved oak.

Very good condition, cleaned painting with old restorations, beautiful frame that is nearly 300 years old, having retained its original gilding, cleaned by our gilder and adapted to the dimensions of the canvas.
