Pair of cornet vases/pot holders or mantel set in porcelaine de Paris. Very fine neoclassical decor inspired by antiquity, with motifs of Greek and Roman military helmets, marble columns mounted with bronzes, bronze-mounted vases. Each vase is decorated on 4 sides, responding in pairs with the other vase. Each decoration is unique, with slight variations. The polychrome decoration, punctuated by laurel falls, stands out against an agate-burnished gold background. The vases stand on a palmette base with 4 claw feet. Work attributed to the Manufacture Schoelcher (unsigned). Epoque Empire Restoration, early XIXth century, circa 1815-1820.
The Manufacture Schoelcher (1798-1834) was the heirof the Manufacture du Faubourg Saint Denis, formerly that of the Comted'Artois, created under the Ancien Régime. It enjoyed great successthe Empire and Restoration, when it was under the protection of theDuchesse de Berry.
