"Louis XVI Style Gilt Wood Fireplace Mirror / Hanging Mirror With Ribbon Bow Decor 79cm X 150cm"
Gilded wood mantel mirror. Rich and elegant Louis XVI style model with scrolled ribbon moldings, a row of pearls and a ribbon bow on the pediment. Superb and very fine moldings; original beveled glass. Late 19th century period (1880-90). This type of decoration is typical of this period when ornamentalists, tired of the excesses of pastiche under Louis Philippe and Napoleon III, decided in homage to the aesthetic perfection of the 18th century to return to a Louis XVI or Louis XV style and decor very pure from a stylistic point of view, but with the perfection of the technical means of the 19th century. The mirror bears the mark of the gilder on the back (Philippe Michelet 2 rue Condillac in Grenoble). Our mirror is a fairly large format (rich model but which remains of reasonable size easy to place), which lends itself well to a natural use above a mantelpiece, or to hang. Beautiful frame with fat moldings (10cm wide). Beautiful, large piece, of superior quality and very decorative. Gold leaf gilding in excellent condition, cleaned by our gilder, original antique glass. Width 79cm Height 150cm with the knot and 133cm without the knot
