Dihl & Guerhard Manufactory—set Of 12 Dinner Plates Featuring Barbel—signed
Artist: Manufacture Dihl Et Guerhard
Set of 12 Empire-period plates made of Paris porcelain and embellished with fine gold. They feature the famous “Barbeaux” design created during the reign of Louis XVI and which remained in fashion until the Restoration. Early 19th century, circa 1800–1810. Ten of the twelve plates bear the signature of the Dihl and Guerhard Manufactory in iron red.
The Dihl and Guerhard Manufactory was founded in 1781 and was established on Rue de Bondy in Paris. In 1782, the manufactory obtained the patronage of the young Duke of Angoulême, Louis-Antoine d’Artois (1775–1844), (son of the future Charles X) and changed its name to La Manufacture du Duc d’Angoulême. During the Revolution, the Directory, and the Empire, it resumed the name Manufacture Dihl et Guerhard.
The set is in excellent condition. The gilding is well-preserved, though slightly worn on two plates. Two plates have a hairline crack, and one plate has a chip under the rim.
Our pieces are from a very large Dihl & Guerhard porcelain service consisting of numerous shaped pieces and plates, available for sale on our website. We still have 24 identical, unsigned plates in stock.
Diameter: 23 cm
