Napoleon III ebony chest bearing the coat of arms of the Ney family, Duke of Elchingen and Prince of Moskowa.

This chest likely belonged to one of Marshal Ney’s sons, probably Joseph Napoléon Ney (1803–1857) or his son.

Or bordered azure; in the center, a shield of the second color, charged with a border of the field color, flanked by two hands placed back-to-back, clad in sable, holding silver sword pommels. The motto reads “Pro patria Mori” (to die for the fatherland).
