A floral Yazd rug, hand-knotted from wool in Iran around 1970–1980.
It measures 122 cm wide by 192 cm long.
Yazd, see map, is located halfway between Kerman and Isfahan and was once known and famous for its gold-threaded fabrics.
Yazd carpets are quite rare on the European market because carpet weaving—both small and large pieces—began late in the city and was driven by necessity.
Yazd was once a city of renowned textile manufacturers.
With the textile market at an all-time low, the residents organized themselves to revive the tradition of carpet knotting, drawing inspiration from Kirman carpets.
By enlisting the help of knotters and design drafters—known as ostads—from the Kirman region, carpet production was able to resume.
Like Kirman carpets, the designs feature only floral motifs in consistently vibrant shades.
The high-quality wool and knotting also evoke this city.
Our curry-yellow model is covered with flowers in shades of green, straw yellow, red, and black.
It is in very good condition.
