Manganese-painted Earthenware Jug, Berber Art, H 30.5 Cm, Haouz, Morocco 1890–1910,

Artist: Berbères

These exquisite antique earthenware pieces—feminine pottery from the Rif, Haouz, and High Atlas regions—are truly rare.
(See the Macma collections in Marrakech)
Our model, a lovely large piece with a thick handle, a filling opening, and a spout, is in excellent condition and dates from the late 19th to early 20th century.

The traditional manganese-based paint remains very visible on the upper part of the body.
These pottery pieces exude a great sense of modernity and proportion.
Still used in the fields or by shepherds, though this is becoming rare, as they have been replaced by plastic!
Dimensions: diameter 22 cm, height: 30.5 cm,

The last photos show antique Moroccan rugs from our collections, available on Proantic.

## This jug-like vessel is typical of Mediterranean regions and has the unique ability to keep water cool.
Made from a porous material, clay, the water moistens the outer surface as it passes through the pores of the unglazed clay.
To evaporate, the water uses energy by releasing its own heat, thereby cooling the inside of the jug.
The water jug has been depicted in many paintings by great artists—Van Gogh, Matisse, Goya, and Cézanne have all painted them in their works—and yet few of us have noticed them...

Condition - Signs of use; this is not a "tourist souvenir," but a genuine antique water jug.
