Indo-persian Basin In Chiseled Brass, Decorated With Chitals And Calligraphy, From The 19th Century

Indo-Persian basin in engraved brass, chiseled with two large bands decorated with chitals also called axis deer.
The Axis Deer or Chital is a deer naturally present in the forested regions of India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.
It is found in all the reserves of India and has been introduced into Central Europe, Ex-Yugoslavia, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Texas and Hawaii.
Other chitals and other very fine animals and birds are chiseled in a band as well as trellis friezes.
A wide band of calligraphy surrounds the body of the pelvis.
The whole is in very good condition. Origin: Northern India.
Dimensions: Diameter: 20.5 cm, Diameter at the neck: 15 cm, Height: 16 cm, weight: 714 grams.
These containers, heavily decorated with marvelous engravings, were the joy and pride of the collections of the bourgeois and princes of that era and the delight of collectors of Islamic art today who have the Orient and its marvelous objects as their passion.
