Hand-painted Papier-mâché Vase With Oriental Decoration, From Kashmir, 1960s - 1970s

Large oriental vase in papier-mâché hand-painted in gold, black and delicate touches of red.
Work of remarkable delicacy, medallions, epigraphic decorations, friezes, foliage make up this piece.
The Kashmiris (North India) have excelled in these complex works for many years.
This vase wins the prize for refinement, so fine is the decoration.
A copper tube placed on the edge of the neck allows water to be poured into this vase and flowers to be placed in it.
The Srinagar region in Kashmir is where these wonders are created and where they were created. Srinagar, the Venice of India, its carpets decorated with gardens, like the Shalimar gardens, its papier-mâché, and its colorful culture.
Circa 1960 - 1970 and in very good condition.
