Chechen Carpet, Tchi Tchi, 123 X 174 Cm, Hand-knotted Wool, Tchetchenia, Caucasus, 1800 - 1850
Artist: Tribus Tchétchènes
Tchi tchi rug from Chechnya, Caucasus.
This piece belongs to the group of step-cross rugs, based on the Armenian tradition of early rugs.
They are easily recognized by their floral border, which features oblique sticks separating stylized flowers.
# Note the completeness and finesse of the border design, and the quality of the colors, despite the passage of time.
The main colors of our model are:
blue, red, white, brick and a very bright curry yellow, they represent a highly sought-after combination and an orderly distribution on each motif as well as for the borders.
The field is intended to be blue-night and is occupied by numerous staircase cruciferous motifs, placed offset from the crosses formed by the field, making it a complex and skilful geometric play, in form and color.
Each cross has a large, stylized flower and other motifs at its center, as well as a prominent letter "S".
This letter is the first letter of the Armenian word "unbp", which means "Almighty God".
It indicates that these rugs belong to the Eastern Christian group.
The main border develops numerous straight rod designs on a blue-night background.
This first part 19th-century piece is a very fine collector's rug.
You can hang it on the wall like a true modern art painting that has nothing to envy our contemporary painters, or, of course, you can hang it on the floor.
Dimensions : width : 123 cm ( 48" ) x length : 174 cm ( 69" )
This rug has been professionally and ecologically cleaned.
