Americans love heavy, extremely comfortable pieces.
The rug is in perfect condition and features beautiful, vibrant colors.
The fringes are short and neat, and the selvedges are impeccable.
This heavy rug requires a large, spacious room to fully appreciate it.
(Kork wool is harvested from under the belly and around the neck of lambs, where the softest wool is found.)
Kashan (Kachan, Keshan): a major city in central Iran.
During the Persian Renaissance, Kashan was the center of production for carpets of legendary splendor.
Finely woven carpets, with exceptionally rich compositions, were knotted by the royal workshop of Shah Abbas.
They have become the centerpieces of museums and private collections. Carpet production in Kashan ceased between the Afghan invasion (1722) and the end of the 19th century.
The revival of carpet production began with carpets distinguished by the superior quality of their wool, which gives them an extremely velvety appearance.
These pieces are called Kashan Motashemi, named after the most famous master weaver of the late 19th century.
The designs are varied and meticulously crafted: hunting scenes, figurative motifs inspired by Persian mythology, birds set against a botanical backdrop, and trees of life.
Thanks to the superior quality of the wool, their tight knotting, and the beauty of their natural colors and designs, Kashan rugs took their place among the finest Persian rugs.
## This magnificent medallion Kashan features very vibrant colors and consists primarily of a large medallion, interlacing patterns, arabesques, and a sumptuous floral design covering the entire field.
The Kork wool is clean, fine, and soft.
Impeccable pile; selvedges and fringes are in very good condition.
The design of this piece stands out clearly, thanks to the ivory and pale blue tones, which perfectly highlight the darker lines.
Both its design and colors are characteristic of this region and period;
deep red and midnight blue are the predominant colors in this piece.
Both rich and delicate in its lines, this design was executed by the weaver using a pre-drawn cartoon, as evidenced by the precision of the motifs at the corners of the borders—a perfection down to the millimeter.
## It is increasingly difficult today to find “authentic Iranian rugs”—hand-knotted, comfortable, and built to withstand heavy foot traffic.
This rug has been professionally cleaned using eco-friendly methods.
