Panderma rug, early 20th century, circa 1920-1930.

Silk and wool blend, hand-knotted, 120 cm wide x 192 cm long including the fringe, in very good condition.
Panderma is now called Bandirma and is located in the Marmara region of Turkey.
The Bandirma workshops, formerly known as Panderma, were partially closed just before World War II.
These marvelous pieces with their subtle tones can therefore only be admired in museums or private collections.
These very fine rugs, made of tightly woven wool, are usually prayer rugs with a plain mihrab in the center.
The delicate shades of old rose, pistachio, pale blue, sea green, apricot, curry yellow, burgundy, Prussian blue, black, and ivory—the colors of our example—adorn our rug.
A wide board from which the slightly scalloped mihrab (niche) emerges.
This board is covered Stylized carnations, old rose in color, are arranged in a highly geometric pattern, mirroring the rest of the piece. Above and below, a tree of life is punctuated with pink blossoms.
A wide border is dotted with large apple blossoms, interspersed with what appears to be a design of rams' heads in a boldly geometric style, difficult to interpret due to its stylized form.
The mihrab features two slender, twin columns and a central pendant lamp, depicted as large tulips or gentians.
Numerous small geranium flowers, a symbol used by Turkish weavers, adorn the interior of the mihrab.
Our carpet showcases the beauty and exquisite craftsmanship that Turkish weavers brought to their work, contributing to the spiritual elevation and devotion of their patrons.
These carpets represent the ascent to paradise.
Antique prayer rugs are very often in good or very good condition.
Condition. They were carefully stored after use, for brief moments of devotion.
The velvet is in good condition with long fringes, the edges are in very good condition.
