Authentic reliquary pendant mounted in a fine tested silver frame and protected by antique beveled glass.
The reverse features a hand-painted miniature depicting Saint John Nepomucene, recognizable by his starry halo, a symbol of his martyrdom and attachment to the secret of confession.
Description
The obverse contains several relics arranged in a star shape around a central relic of the True Cross (Lignum Sanctae Crucis). Handwritten legends identify in particular:
- Saint John Francis Regis (S. Joan. F. Reg.)
- Saint John Nepomucene (S. Joan. Nepomuc.)
- Saint Ignatius of Loyola (S. Ignatii de L.)
- Saint Francis Xavier (S. Xaverii)
- Relic of the True Cross (L. S. Crucis)
Several other peripheral relics are present, but their inscriptions are now partially erased.
This composition brings together some of the most important figures in Jesuit spirituality. St. John Nepomucene (c. 1345-1393), martyr from Bohemia, is particularly invoked as protector of the secret of confession and against slander.
